Tom Tomaszewski is a UKCP-accredited psychoanalytic psychotherapist and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) Consultant working in private practice in Oxford and London, England. He specialises in supporting individuals struggling with addiction, dependency, and the effects of oppression. He recently spoke ‘On No’ at the 2025 Neuropsychoanalysis Association congress in New York. His paper, ‘Be somebody else: Improvisation, momentum and psychoanalysis as social psychotherapy’, will shortly to be published in the British Journal of Psychotherapy and is something of an introduction to the kinds of thing I will be talking about.

What happens when we speak about working with trauma, when we try to take a history, and when repetition turns singular experiences into generalities? This talk, which will have plenty of space for questions, includes a short film made for the event, Revolution, a demonstration and discussion of Francine Shapiro’s EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing), and an opportunity to consider how you might think about revolution, and what psychotherapy is if it isn’t revolutionary, without ending up going round in circles.
