The therapist’s experience of working with clients who appear obese – Linda Jones, MSt. Psychodynamic Practice
Friday January 23 @ 7:45 pm - 9:15 pm
This workshop is an opportunity to think about how as therapists we relate to our client’s bodies and the feelings that are evoked about our own. I will share the results and discussion of a research project which was part of my master’s dissertation looking into the lived experience of therapists working with clients with obesity. Participants will be encouraged to share their own experiences within the group.
Dr Linda Jones, MSt. Psychodynamic Practice
I am a Psychotherapeutic counsellor offering short- and long-term individual counselling to adults of all ages and work as a tutor at Oxford University teaching communication skills to medical students. I have more than 30 years’ experience of working with all ages in my medical role as a GP, with a special interest in the challenges of living with chronic disease, chronic pain and medically unexplained symptoms. I witnessed the struggles of patients with weight issues and the unacknowledged stigma they experienced within the health system which led to my interest in researching this area.
