Tuesday 24th October 2023 @ 7:45 pm - 9:15 pm
The Spiritual and Transpersonal modes: Plato, Freud, Jung etc
I shall look at the Transpersonal and the Spiritual under four headings: Archetypal Aspects; the Problem of Belief; The Numinous and the Mystical; the Uncanny.
We shall explore by way of looking at personal illustrations and respecting individual caution and boundaries and difference.
John Heron: Feeling and Personhood
Freud: The Theme of the Three Caskets
Antoine de St Exupery: The Little Prince
Fyodor Dostoievski: The Grand Inquisitor

I have a special interest in the interface between religion, philosophy, the arts, and psychotherapy. I am dedicated to promoting and protecting a serious pluralistic and deconstructionist position and dialogue within the politics of psychotherapy. I am more at the ‘process’ end (as opposed to ‘programmatic’) as a therapist, narrative-relational in a generic sense, with a strong existential sense of psychic dynamics.
I believe the structure and conventions of all human organisations, and institutions, are profoundly secondary to individual personal and relational processes, – there being no easy step from any supposed ‘natural order’ to human social contract based institutions, – but that, within their necessarily imperfect limits, as a necessary evil, they should be regulated by constitutional and libertarian principles of organisation, ethics, and politics. I try to bring jest and humour to serious matters without dismissing their seriousness. In my entry to the ‘serious’ time of life, I am working on the wide theme of ‘historicity’ as an author. I like people, by and large, and some of them I love, and I love also the natural world, particularly butterflies, the sea and moors and mountains, – as well as music and soccer.
