In this presentation, I will introduce the story of my work with William Smith and the book, A Guilty Victim (Karnac, March 2025), that grew out of it. A Guilty Victim tells the true story of a man’s recovery from grooming and sexual abuse at a Catholic boarding school in Ireland in the 1970s. It is an account of psychotherapy with an adult survivor, written with the client’s full consent. The book presents a unique insight into the process of psychotherapy in action, with nine moving illustrations created by the client to tell his life story.
