Mark Brayne: Attachment-Informed EMDR – a paradigm shift for psychotherapy
Friday 12th April 2024 @ 7:45 pm - 9:15 pm

You’ve probably heard of EMDR – that weird finger-wagging, eye movement-following therapy that’s getting quite a bit of press these days. Prince Harry has famously had it, and so have quite a few prominent folk ready to talk publicly about their experience of EMDR clearing their PTSD.
If you’d like to know more, or indeed if you’re already up and running with EMDR and would like to go a bit deeper, we’re delighted to welcome EMDR Consultant and post-basic EMDR workshop leader Mark Brayne to explore with us some of the magic of this comprehensive psychotherapy, and why he thinks that EMDR is becoming a game-changer in the world of emotional wellbeing and therapy.
Mark is a former BBC and Reuters foreign correspondent with past postings (a LONG time ago in the old cold war world) in Moscow, Berlin, Vienna and Beijing, and he retrained later in life as a transpersonal psychotherapist (MA 2000).
With his wife Jutta, also an EMDR Consultant, and their daughter Katharine, Mark runs and founded the EMDR therapy and training company EMDR Focus, and especially since the world went four years ago when Covid struck, works and trains with clients and fellow therapists around the world, especially in Australia/New Zealand and increasingly in North America as well as the UK.
He joins us on [time, date and venue] to introduce his particular way of working with EMDR, focusing in particular on early-life attachment. We hope you’ll find his ideas supportive of and compatible with the way you work already – noting that this won’t be a formal training but just an introduction and encouragement, perhaps, to consider embarking on your own EMDR journey.
There’s more about Mark on his training website www.emdrfocus.com, his therapy site www.braynework.com, and if you can bear the pun, on his blog www.psychlotherapist.com.
Yes, with an L, as since meeting in Moscow 50 years ago, he and Jutta have been life passionate long-distance tandem riders. They pedalled 3500 miles round Germany last year, and just a few days after joining us in Oxford are heading off again for two months and 2500 miles around France.
